How does it work?
Here at Jae Kim, MD Facial Plastic Surgery, we use our Erbium laser to remove the damaged upper layers of your skin in a very precise manner. This laser emits light that is absorbed by water as the light hits the skin which stimulates the growth of new collagen that will make your new skin smoother and firmer. You can select treatment for certain areas, like fine lines around your eyes, or you can treat the entire face and neck for an overall refresh of your appearance. Laser skin resurfacing is relatively painless as most people only feel a slight sting. Treatment can take anywhere from 20-35 minutes, depending on the area treated. 3-6 treatments about 4-6 weeks apart are recommended for optimal results.
What is the downtime associated with Laser Skin Resurfacing?
Your skin may react in different ways. Overall the downtime with Erbium laser is shorter than with CO2 laser. It will feel like a mild sunburn with some redness and itchiness for a few days. Your skin may also feel a bit tight. We ask patients to follow our post-procedure regimen to alleviate these symptoms. You may have an urge to apply a cold pack, but please don’t! The heat you feel is part of the rejuvenation process, and you don’t want to interfere with that if at all possible. Instead, apply a generous amount of Aquaphor or Vaseline to help the healing process.
Am I a good candidate for Laser Skin Resurfacing?
Most people are great candidates! However, you may not be a good candidate for laser skin resurfacing if you have:
● Active acne
● Very dark skin
● Deeper permanent wrinkles
● Moderate to severe sagging skin
Patients with darker skin tones have a greater risk of hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation. Patients with excess or sagging skin may benefit from other procedures that Dr. Jae Kim offers. To schedule your consultation with Dr. Kim, call or text 703-705-2100 today!
